Changing CSGO server.

Post by Odie »

I've noticed that the csgo server is always empty or near empty.

Has anyone considered changing it to another gamemode?
I'm pretty sure it would get filled more if it was changed to:
Aim arena
gungame
deathmatch
retake

That or someone could host an event and encourage people to play on it more.

I agree with this. Mini games seem to be losing popularity in CSGO in general so a new game mode will possibly drive more traffic

It does cost money to run a server so might as well change it to something that guarantees it stays full.

The issue is that we do not have a community really in the csgo scene.
I have talked to fire lately and previously a while back.
Our best bet is to get players would to start with some kind of zombie survival, FFA DM, and 1v1 servers since they seem to be the ones that get people in. If we can get a player base that way opening more servers would be worth it.
We would also want to run ads on the servers since it wouldn't be cheap to run the servers with high performance.
I would like to customize all these servers so we can have some uniqueness between all the other servers out there.

A 1v1 server would be a pretty good start for opening a broader community in csgo however it's a gamemode that requires high priority for gameplay. The one issue we have had on the MG server is the hitreg being weird, no matter how many times I've looked into the server configs I couldn't figure it out It could have also been a mixture of the MG maps making the hitreg unstable.
We can easily setup a 1v1 server if Fire is up for it. Also I'm not sure if the 1v1 server needs many admins due to the only thing the admins should be allowed to do on that server is to slay/kick/ban players.

Does the csgo server run on the same server box as the tf2 servers? Because 128 tick servers do use up more resources, but most if not all aim/ am maps are very simple and I cant imagine any of them having any significant impact on fps or server resources like some of those giant glitch MG maps do. As for admins I don't understand what you mean, or how it would be any different from the admins in other tf2 servers.
